As the year draws to a close and knowing that I will not be in any position to post tomorrow, I thought I would end the year with my wish list for 2008!
1. When someone says something is free for it to actually mean you pay nothing or give nothing away! (you know who you are and what you do!)
2. For Google to strip out spam sites completely and true content sites to actually register for their true rank!
3. Google again, stop changing the layout of all the tools you offer, change the functionality by all means but please not the layouts!
4. No more recycled products from anyone for a whole year! Seriously Guru’s try this for 12 months and in 2009 you will make so much money from recycled and relabeled products!
5. For the “No Technical Skills Required” sites to actually talk to people who have no technical skills and get them to use their products before they actually advertise this!
6. Niche areas that have little competition to actually become more competitive as competition makes life so much more fun!
Well that is it in all honesty a little bit of a moan to finish what has been a very successful year and I am looking forward to being able to share with you all more and more in 2008. Have a great New Year celebration and I will see you all in 2008!
I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas day and this finds you relaxed and refreshed! When I was at school I have to admit I hated Languages, I struggled with English so having to learn French and German was just struggle after struggle. However when I met my wife the fact she speaks 5 different languages means I had to learn pretty quick. Little did I know at that time that I would be benefiting in my online activities as I learned!
November and December are busy times if you are in internet marketing, you have the build up to Christmas then the January sales to stay on top of but if you are lucky enough to speak Spanish you have the joys of Reyes to look forward to as well. The Spanish don’t exchange gifts until the 6th of January when the three Kings were supposed to have visited.
Two years ago I started to look at the fact that there were different days for exchanging gifts around the world. Since that time I have where possible targeted the build up to that event. For example at the moment while many markets (America and the UK) are going wild on their sales I am putting more time into the Reyes festival as it is the day when the gifts are exchanged in Spain.
A while ago I wrote a post about event based marketing and making sure you are ahead of the game. What I normally do is have Outlook installed with the public holidays of all major countries around the world that have their different celebrations. This normally means that you can plan in advance and ensure that you benefit from the markets.
A friend of mine just sent me a link to a blog that he has been helping out on asking for some advice. I just told him if he wants his readers to click away from his blog or close the page down then keeping it the way it is will be fine but to keep people interested means it has to be easy to read. His main mistake………….
It wasn’t his content there is nothing wrong with that he is a good and talented writer and will get barrow loads of traffic from people linking to his traffic, the problem was with the number of plugin’s he had installed in his Wordpress theme.
I have to say that I have been seeing it all too often in a number of bloggers who think that they are helping their readers by linking every third word out to somewhere else. It doesn’t help it is a real turn off in my opinion. I know there are thousands of plugin’s available but be sensible you want people to pay attention to what you want to say not get lead off to the local pizza place because you named the town you live in!
Think about what you want people to do on your blog and make sure that they enjoy their experience and that way they will come back time and time again. If you get a good following of readers they will come back time and time again. So keep your content rich and your plugin’s to what is needed rather than what might be helpful, and if you are not sure you can try it then turn it off and uninstall it if it is no good!
At the start of 2007 I have to say I thought I had broken the back of internet marketing and affiliate marketing. However in the drive to be one step ahead it didn’t stop me buying a stack of other products this year. The five best products I purchased this year were:
At Five Inside the List, a great detailed ebook that offers a good insight in how to build an email list for any industry and how to approach your list so you get sales over and over again. A very good read and I have to say was responsible for an increase of about 50% of what I was earning from my lists prior to reading.
At Four SEO Elite: If you are looking for a product to boost your ranking for keywords then this is it! I have to say that for the pages that I have wanted to rank well with LSI keywords this has helped a great deal getting me front page in Google for a number of fairly difficult keywords. Also comes with some great SEO lessons for free! Increased my traffic from search engines by 125%
At Three Who Loves Money: Now the hype on this product was huge and I have to say I read it and revived old ad campaigns in Yahoo! Search Marketing
UK and using their slow roller technique and made literally hundreds of dollars over night. The slow roller system is still working and takes next to no time at all to keep up and running. Well worth a read, and increased my revenue overnight by around 75% by selling cookers!
In the runner up spot number Two Blogging for Riches when I took the decision to leave the Wealthy Affiliate forum back in September it was to spend more time writing on my blogs, yes I have many more than just this one. At last count I believe we got up to around 49 separate blogs about 40 different subjects. Blogging for Riches moved us into a new market and increased our activity by around 200% meaning that revenue also went up around the same!
The winner by far was when a little man whispered in my ear one August morning to take a look at a website and BOOM! Life has changed! Yes it is a monthly fee and no its not as cheap as WA! However I have learned more in the past 4 months and earned more in the past 4 months than in the past year! What is the wonder product of the year? The Immediate Edge perfectly named because they give you just that The Edge over others. The teachings of the moment are those of mastering Facebook from three different angles. If you want to get ahead then I would suggest seeing what Ed Dale and Dan Raine have to say because it is truly The Edge I needed!
I noticed this when I logged in the is morning but I have to give credit to this blog post over on Social Media Blog for putting it in the blogging system.
For months now people have been telling Facebook that the fact that they have the word “is” in the status as a static word (for example “The Boss is has got all his christmas presents!” Stupid wasn’t it) Well this morning they have finally removed the dreaded “is” from the system and it IS now much easier to write an understanding status message!
Around six months ago I posted a very timely question on a well known internet forum and got completely shot down for my efforts. The post was titled “What would you do tomorrow if Squidoo went bust?” In the post I asked the many people that were raving about their squidoo rankings in Google what their contingency plan was should Google suddenly fall out of love with Squidoo.
Well sure enough a week later Google performed the now infamous SLAP and squid lenses dropped like stones in the rankings and in many cases dropped from the site completely. In the replies to the original post people had said things like, “Move it to HubPages“, “That won’t happen to my lense!” and my favorite “I can’t see Google doing that to one of Seth’s sites!” Ten days later this post was buried right down in the 4th page of the forum after posts that read “WHAT IS HAPPENING MY LENSES HAVE ALL DROPPED AND I AM GETTING NO TRAFFIC!”
Basically and unfortunately the hard truth of internet and affiliate marketing is that there is always someone who is trying to abuse systems that work. This then means that the systems don’t work. Time and time again we have to revisit what we do in order to make sure that we go about things the right way. This is one of the main reasons I have made sure that I have a number of income streams that keep my business ticking along without depending on just one.
There are always new methods new techniques to stay on top of and a whole bunch of products that will keep you on your toes if you keep buying every single one (habit I used to be in). However if you sit down with a blank sheet of paper and write down how you currently earn your money and then split them into sections that do not rely on each other. For instance if you are using Yahoo Ads to promote products and 99% of your traffic is coming from there then what would you do if the Yahoo Ads system went offline for a week? Basically you are writing a disaster recovery plan for your own business.
No matter how small an amount you are earning from your business or just from your online efforts if you are serious about it then you should have some kind of plan that you have to fall back on should the dreaded worse happen.
Why am I writing such a cheerful post so close to Christmas? Well and affiliate network that was one of my 7 income streams went broke this week and with it has taken my Christmas commissions for three of my websites. Luckily for me I have others that have been earning and performing over the build up to the festive season but it did throw some sort of spanner in the works I can tell you. Be safe get a plan.
When Facebook released their new advertising program called Beacon it was a breakthrough in advertising (apparently)! The ability to see what your friends are shopping for and what they purchased through your newsfeed.
Unfortunately Facebook overlooked a very important fact! Not everyone wants people to know what they are buying and what they friends and family are buying for Christmas Presents!!! A number of complaints (50,000 people signed a petition to force the site to change the system to be opt in) were received by the site who now boast that they get over 25 million people log onto the site twice a day for at least twenty minutes a day.
They have been forced to change their advertising program to be a permission based, so you have to give permission to the site to have your adverts show in the newsfeed’s of others. So now my wife will no longer know that I have purchased her a nice expensive …… for Christmas.
The Affiliate Truth also launched two different shopping sites in the past week. Shop in the UK and Buy That Online are run in two different ways and the experiment will be something that we tell you all about in the next few months.
We also have a new format coming shortly as well, easier to read and navigate.
