One thing that does get overlooked when building a website is the addition of a site map.

A site map can help a search engine find its way to and around your site as well as help users navigate where they are supposed to be going. Now don’t panic you don’t have to do that much to get your site a site map.

It is fairly simple especially if you are using WordPress as we explained to you in the installation document then you will know how to download from the plugin site, unzip, upload to your site and install the plugin on your website. Once it is activated all you have to do is click on the button that says Generate Site Map!

These are not essential to your website but using the Google Sitemap generator which is the official name of this plugin means that you can benefit from the click of a button uploading your sitemap to Google and bringing the search engine spiders to your site.

I was searching through some stumbleupon sites yesterday when I discovered a page that gives your website a value based on the linkbacks to your site via Technorati, which is a social bookmarking website!

I thought what the hell and decided to run The Affiliate Truth through the tool and low and behold we are worth nearly $3000 already and we haven’t even thought about promoting it seriously yet!

I have a pretty rigorous schedule that I like to keep to as much as I can, however there are things that can get in the way and over the weekend I sat down with a good old fashioned pen and paper and worked out how long each thing takes me!

For example to write content for my blogs takes me about two hours if I attempt to write on all of them with meaningful content that has an interesting subject. Then it takes me close to 2 hours to do a directory submission for a new website (over 250 directories spread out a few a day for a natural link building). Then writing articles, keyword research, niche research and so on, as well as no managing programmers who are working on our new project.

So my time is pretty full and I could use getting some of the less interesting tasks, such as directory submissions and article submissions outsourced so I can free up my time somewhat. I worked out that 80% of my time is taken up with 20% of what I actually want to achieve. (there was a good post on Six Months to 40 about this). So my aim for this week is to not only find a happy balance of what I am doing but make sure that I get a good return on the time I am investing.

So this week is going to be a productive week here at The Affiliate Truth investing in the time we are spending on projects as well as focusing on getting other areas up and running as well. We have discovered that there is a way of setting up a membership website using tools that are free so we will be pushing to get the first of our new sites up in the next 3 weeks as well as pushing our niche areas forward! We had a good month on England Rugby Shirts even though the boys didn’t win so it is a proven method that we will now crack on forward with!

Every now and again you write something or come across something that suddenly goes mental!

Yesterday we told you about the event based niche that we had discovered and were doing very nicely from in the past few weeks! Well yesterday afternoon, evening and this morning the traffic to that site went crazy, the clicks through to the merchant went completely out of this world. However NO SALES!

What did we do wrong? Nothing! Why no sales? The merchant has sold out of the item that is being promoted! England Rugby Shirts have almost sold out completely around the whole country and we can’t find another supplier who can knock up an affiliate deal in time to get the shirts delivered in time for the Final on Saturday.

So we did almost everything right. The problem was that we did not have a backup plan should this happen. Why did we not have a backup plan? We had no idea that we would hit the volumes that we did and absolutely no idea that were going to hit the jackpot.

So how do we stop this in the future? Easy. We will have a plan B for anything that might go into this situation! Have another supplier, an alternative route for traffic the works. Basically this way there is no way that we will miss the boat.

On this occasion there was a lack of supply which caused the problem but it is always good to have a fall back!
